Why Healthcare Reform Will Fail (Part 2)

Earlier, I predicted the total failure of Healthcare reform.

Of course its too early to say with certainty that the effort has died, but it sure looks dead. The usual proponents (DailyKos, Firedoglake) have been very defensive -- Huffington Post seems preoccupied with sneaking boob stories onto the front page.

My method of analysis is as follows, I look for the "keys" and the "locks" of a scenario. In this case, the keys are the politicians willing to subjugate the power of wealthy insurance companies, the locks are the ones who are unwilling. Partisanship is entirely moot here because it's actually more predictive of the manner of failure, rather than a forecast. Republicans are going to lean away from the Democrats' efforts, but neither party is acting in good faith.

Admit to yourself, as I have, that this is an entirely corrupt congress. Most of the Senators have been in power since the decision to invade Iraq. They all watched horrifying Abu Gharib footage in a closed door session and still they lacked the resolve to close the prison down.

They really haven't done shit since 2000 but stand idly by as Bush played GI-Joe with the Middle East. These guys are not serious, they are cowed simpletons who look only to please their corporate sponsors.

It's not to say there isn't a good faith player among them, it's more like the Black Sox of 1919, the game is being thrown.

I can't think of a more appropriate issue to gauge the temperature of Congress than Health Care reform. When thousands of Americans are corralling like cattle for free medical treatment, it's a goddamn shameless politician that can't deal fairly on the issue. But these guys have already witnessed so much national shaming that the shock doesn't register anymore. They're remote; they fly untethered, whisked with the winds of power, rising away from the ground and the plebeian class who elected them.

It's going to take a better Congress to meet our ideals in good faith. You can't trade with a sellout, and these guys are all sold out.
